Anyone know the name of this plant?

That is a 10 inch pot. I've had this thing since it was tiny (a gift plant that turned out nicely).

I would say either kalanchoe luciae or K. thyrsiflora. I find them hard to tell apart but maybe this will help you.... or not. Smiling

I agree With Daisy, I can not tell the difference also, we just call is "butterfly succulent" here, it can turn into a very nice color, and I believe Baja can make it like the photo below, its not mine, I cut the picture from the local seller

That looks like a cultivar of K. luciae called 'Fantastic'.

Flapjacks (Kalanchoe luciae 'Fantastic')

My plant is neither luciae nor thyrsiflora ... the leaves are not flat (or gently curved) but slightly cupped, with a notable gutter down the middle (which I've never seen on those Kalanchoes). I'm not convinced the leaves are even in pairs, they look more alternate to me (spiral rosette). I'd say the plant is almost certainly in that family. But that leaves a lot of candidates.

hm.. I have no idea then, the closest picture comparison in the local market here is the "butterfly succulents" and "echeveria lime lemon", but echeveria will have a more dense leaves

I knew that answer was too simple but now that we have it out of the way... my other thought was an Echeveria of some sort maybe Echeveria pallida.

Echeveria gigantea(not sure if it is recognized here) or a hybrid of thereof. Another possibility would be a gibbiflora hybrid. Just a guess, dont take it too seriously.

I think it's E. gigantea. The flowers should help pin that down securely. Thank you all for the assist. This might be one of those plants I need more of. Smiling

My first thought was Echeveria palida but the colors are wrong.
When I googled E. gigantea I could see that, this is it.
I want one now. Lovey dubby

That's very pretty! Are you able to add a pic from the side? Ech does seem like the best suggestion so far but it seems so loose for a Ech in enough sun to yield those gorgeous red edges. Is that normal for some kinds of Echs?

...and what does this plant look like now? It also looks more loose than other Echs I've seen/had.

Wow that's a blast from the past, an image wiped clean from my memory. Isn't the database great for reminders? Smiling That plant was in a bot garden in central Mexico. It does look a lot like what I've got here. A loose rosette is characteristic of the species.

Here is your side view:

Thumb of 2021-11-04/Baja_Costero/46e4c7

The distance between the two leaves above and below that big chunk of exposed stem is about an inch. So that's the distance between successive spirals in the rosette, such as it loosely is.

This plant was evidently propagated from a leaf and thus has 3 heads instead of the usual 1. It is growing in full sun.

Some info about the species from the Pilbeam book. I will try to work on a comment in the database, but for now...

Solitary stems to 50cm, "colossal" loose rosette to 30cm+, typically composed of 15-20 leaves. Distinguishable from the similar gibbiflora based on color: gibbiflora is "variously colored" while gigantea is "consistently pale bluish-green and red-edged." Inflorescence to 2m+.

Smiling

So pretty! I like it from the side almost as much.

Sounds like another visit to the bot garden could be justified in the name of research. : )

It should be called practical joker because @ first glance, it looks like pairs of opposite leaves.

Well, the nursery just called mine "flapjack plant". Researching it, I found Kalanchoe thyrsiflora. Whatever its real name, I love it. Biggest problem now is: it's about 2 feet tall with numerous side plants, and I'm not sure how to go about transplanting! Vero Beach FL, zone 10a (I think).

Is it in the process of growing a bloom stalk? Mine topped out at around 8'. At the time it didn't have any offsets and since it's a monocarpic plant, I was afraid I was seeing the end of it. It did ultimately put on offsets and, more interesting to me, the bloom stalk actually last two years, though I cut the top portion off when it went back outdoors after overwintering indoors. I've always regretted that, but I didn't expect to keep living. My thinking was that it was near the end and was going to wither away, so I cut it down about a third. It had more white powder than any plant I've ever seen on that stalk.

The 'FlapJack' plant refers to both Kalanchoe thrysifloria and K. luciae.
Both of these plants are monocarpic; however, they produce a lot of offshoots at the base.
My flower spikes only reach 2-3 feet tall and I cut them off when they stop blooming. Usually in a couple of months.
The excessive white powder starts to make a mess if I leave them standing.
These are great plants to grow as they can become huge if it is very hot and dry.
I have seen them with 10 inch paddles.
The red edge K. luciae is my favorite and the varigated one with wavy leaves is outstanding. Unfortunately it is a patented cloned plant and the offshoots are not as spectacular as the original clones.

This article about past confusion between the luciae (off-white blooms) and thyrsiflora (yellow blooms) species might be of interest. Both are called paddle plants, &/or flapjack plants.
https://www.smgrowers.com/info...

'Fantastic' is a really colorful Kalanchoe cultivar that IS fantastic in great light.
Flapjacks (Kalanchoe luciae 'Fantastic')

Baja's asked-about plant is not a Kalanchoe, but it does somewhat resemble the Kals mentioned.
