Do you use raised beds for lilies? If so, what material do you build them from and what is the height of those beds?
I have 3 raised beds, but they are only 25 cm high. Better than nothing. They are built of thin concrete slabs. In the future I intend to build 2 large raised beds where a large number of bulbs could fit, but I am not sure which material is best for construction. Wood is most often used and it looks nice, but wood is a short-lived material and needs to be protected with chemicals if we want it to last. However, these chemicals can poison the soil and destroy the bulbs over time. Another option is concrete. I rarely see this probably because it is a much more expensive investment, but the durability is unlimited. A small problem is that such a bed would be too hot in the sun and should be covered with some insulation, which is an additional high cost.
I am also interested in the best bed height. People often make either very low (about 20 cm) or very high (1 meter) beds. I think the height of 40-50 cm is quite ok? Probably that height also depends on the soil we have.
