true - raising / lifting requires pulling the plant out of its pot...washing off old potting media ....then lifting about an inch higher from where plant was ... this will expose 1" of the caudex - afterwards, back-fill with fresh potting media

there are benefits of repotting with fresh potting media .... first, can almost guarantee the plant will take off in new growth ....it wont look like the same plant

if stem tips are pruned at the same time you will get more flowers too

can even recycle the old inorganic potting media (rocks, pebbles, sand) ...by washing and left to dry in sun to "sanitize"
