My experience is both pots and ground. Hardy to about zone 7.
In pots it likes a lot of light. The pot can go dormant for winter if you wish. I did that with outdoor pots. In the library, well lit, it does not go dormant.

Some leaf damage may have happened outside on my potting bench.
Plant it and they will come.
