The AOS website lists them as being difficult to grow.
I have no idea as to who exactly provided that opinion but it would make me take notice. I would like to think that it is some how a consensus.
But I understand the desire to try one. From what I recall Disa uniflora, I think it was, made the initial splash. It arrived on the scene with those large, brightly colored blooms.
Orchid lecturer, teacher and judge. Retired Wildlife Biologist. Supervisor of a nature preserve up until I retired.
