Assuming Colocasia esculenta... If you let frost take the leaves, the plant will go dormant and then you can put the pots in your basement. When I did that, I watered just enough/often enough so the soil doesn't get completely dry but I'm not sure that's necessary. The pot will be a lot lighter if it's dry at the time, but I remember bringing in heavy, wet pots.
