It should do fine, though it might lose some of its vibrant golden color. I have one which was planted in fairly sunny situation initially, but like most other things in my yard, is now pretty shaded by overgrown woods. It's golden color is a little muted - not sure you can tell in the picture.

A shrub you might also consider is one which I love, a gold-leafed cultivar of the pagoda dogwood (C. alternifolia Gold Bullion). It's color stands out much better in my yard despite being in a similarly shaded situation. Not sure if it is too 'tree-like' for your situation. I attached a picture of it also.
