Tiffany, the name Thautomatophyllum was not 'conjured very recently'. It was created in 1859 (134 years ago) with a single species, T. spruceanum (aka Philodendron goeldii).
It has always been an aroid genus.
Philodendron has always been a genus on its own and had 3 subgenera: Meconostigma, Pteromischum, and Philodendron. Philodendron also having several subgenera on its own.
In 2018 based on genetic testing and other evidence several plants were determined to be different enough from Philodendron to move into a new genus. The sub genus Meconostigma was elevated to an actual GENUS, and these plants were placed into genus up from the species Thaumatophyllum (from Philodendron)... new genus.
One of those plants is the one that this thread is about.
