They eat turks cap (Malvaviscus sp.) here...

vitex though... is strongly enough scented that I can plant it outside the deer fence....

Fuzzy plants are sometimes effective too... like verbascum & Lychnis...
Although... they sometimes even eat rose campion in the winter... reducing it's effectiveness as a deer resistant plant...

Solution for deer in my experience... plant lots of different plants, and remove stuff that gets consumed, while propagating the stuff they avoid.
