Back story on oteroi and that particular clone.
Felipe Otero, an explorer of central Mexico and parts beyond, collected a bunch of different plants in a bunch of different genera. Included among them is this plant FO-076 (FO76 in brief), which refers to his initials (FO) and the number 76. That is how he labeled his collections (by the way also including Echeverias, and there is some interesting lore there with respect to setosa in particular). Presumably the numbers went in chronological order.
So the cultivar name you were given presumably refers to a single clone, reproduced from offsets into eternity, identical genetically to the material Felipe Otero harvested in Puebla or whatever. The Sierra Mixteca of south-central Mexico. There are of course various sports of this plant given various names, a reasonably long lineage in cultivation. As well as seedling offspring.
The name oteroi, which was given when the species was described in 2019, is in honor of Felipe Otero, and actually the connection is pretty cool because it ties back to that plant you just got. Until that point most people were calling this plant a green version of titanota. That is why you got it as one. There are 3 or 4 agaves in that part of Mexico and they hybridize back and forth; and the species themselves are fairly variable; so lots of different character in this group (and lots of opportunities for people to name cultivars).
I think subsequently other clones of this green, toothy agave species became available and more widespread. And just to confuse things, some of them were also labeled 'FO-76', but they are not actually the original. You know the one that Felipe Otero touched with his bare hands. Also note this particular clone was given the name Agave sp. No.1 in Japan. That name may appear in your part of the world.

This is the version in a bot garden in Amsterdam.
This is a different version of the species that I am multiplying for the new garden
Agave oteroi in the public garden
Polianthes is one I would like to try, have not seen it available. Want to inhale the fragrance.
Apparently it's Agave amica now, with the lumping of other genera into Agave.
