Fernleafs are amongst the most dry loving of peonies. Make sure to plant it in a very well draining area and out of the line of fire of any sprinklers. They will die back faster than other herbaceous, probably pretty dead looking by July. If you have relatively regular rain there is no reason to supplemental water at any point. The roots are also more fragile, lightly connected carrot-looking roots. Be gentle with them!
