Ok I feel really, really stupid. You are right. These are 2 separate plants. I suppose way back in the way back, I planted these side by side. Then I forgot I did that. I went out and actually pulled the branches apart and☄️ two different plants.
All this time, I thought leaves were coming out one way and morphing. But, no.
