I'm glad to hear that you are going to give it a try, Ppal. Three of the roses I worked on this spring in a friend's garden this spring are coming back very well and have put out a lot of new basals. The others only put out one or two basals, but have branched out more, so they have more leaves for photosynthesis. There's hope that they will make it, too.
The roses in my photos above are probably 30 years old or older, so there's a chance you can bring yours back. It's going to be harder to get good budded roses, so if you can save the roses you have, you are ahead.
