Luckily, Regan Nursery still carries many of the newer Austins, and although it charges more for Austins than for its other roses ($22.99 as opposed to $19.99), it still charges less than David Austin does for the same rose. Lady of Shalott, for instance, costs $22.99 at Regan Nursery and $26.95 at David Austin.
Regan doesn't grow its own roses. It gets these from David Austin, so the only possible explanation is that Regan's retail markup is not as high as David Austin's. Odd, isn't it? You'd think the source could afford the lower markup.
