Yes @LarryR,this 'sugar crust' has existed in the daylily world for quite some time. I remember when I first got into daylilies back in 1997, seeing it on a daylily in a garden tour. I was so intrigued I sat down on the lawn to snap a close-up shot of it.

I too am German, although when I had to start school, I had to learn English and my parents thought it best to speak only English around us so we could learn faster. So my understanding is very basic although when I was in Germany in 2009, I was amazed how quick I could pick up the gist of what was being said, sometimes even translating to my Mom who is hard of hearing.
