Very appealing!

I am glad that this topic has been blogged and commented.

In retrospect "sugar crust" would have been a very appealing name for this variety. I hope I can improve through hybridization, the gold edge. Unfortunately I could reap very few seeds this year.

Thanks for the comments, ratings and translating it into the German language. Because "Zuckerkruste" also sounds very good. If I get it appropriate offspring, both names will remember for registration.

Hallo Hans!

Ich bin eben ganz unerwartet auf dieser Seite gelandet. Das ist ja eine prachtvolle "Kruste." Gibt es so was anderswo? Lassen Sie uns bitte wissen wie das weitergeht.

(My apologies to English speakers. Although born in the U.S., my native language is that of a German dialect. I couldn't resist trying out my rusty German on a native speaker. Smiling
I told Hans that I ended up on this web page by accident and complimented him on that amazing sugar crust edge. I asked him if such an edge already exists elsewhere and to keep us abreast of further developments.)

Yes Hans. It is good to hear from European hybridisers. Please keep in contact with us.

Yes @LarryR,this 'sugar crust' has existed in the daylily world for quite some time. I remember when I first got into daylilies back in 1997, seeing it on a daylily in a garden tour. I was so intrigued I sat down on the lawn to snap a close-up shot of it.

I too am German, although when I had to start school, I had to learn English and my parents thought it best to speak only English around us so we could learn faster. So my understanding is very basic although when I was in Germany in 2009, I was amazed how quick I could pick up the gist of what was being said, sometimes even translating to my Mom who is hard of hearing.

THX to all ....

Larry, I have looked for similar edges under my photos. Edges with the gold plated effect I had found in the varieties Rose Fireglow and John Peat. The expression is very weather dependent.

Sue, it's great that you speak German and have made pictures of daylilies with crust. When I have question about registration or texts to ATP, I know now who I can ask for help.

For me it is also very interesting to know which varieties have a wide sugar crust. With the right varieties, I then maybe appropriate crossing partners for ADO. And can the sugar crust for descendants improve. Maybe your pictures/informations are sure to help me.

Glen, when I see your answers and your profile, it occurs to me that I have something of Australia.

From an established German breeder "Tamberg" I bought a "Citrina vespertina". Mr. Tamberg had this species from a person in Australia. This person had the Citrina from Japan. Unfortunately not in AHS/ATP.
And Larry, this Citrina is not one like you have (also diffrent to Altissima). Yours look like a "Citrina Baroni" . My (... vespertina) Is 55 "tall. It will be a part of my crossing program to breed tall DL.
