We have a pair of Carolina Wrens who began building a nest in an empty decorative pot right by the screen door to the back porch where we come & go all the time. This was the first day of nest building. Tomorrow or the next day I'll take some shots of the finished product. This is where we kept the Kong stick we throw for the dog so we moved that & placed one of dh's old flip flops on top of the pot to take the place of the dog's toy.
We put up 2 bluebird houses yesterday afternoon & by this morning they had both been claimed & nests are being built in them.
That's pretty quick! We have a 3rd house but haven't decided where to put it yet. Guess we better get busy!
My zoom is only 5x on this camera so it looks really far but is not in real life; I just can't get close up enough with the camera. This is a dead tree the resident red shouldered hawks love to hang out in. The one on the right is the male & the left has to be a female b/c just before I snapped this photo; he jumped on her. Yep, it's spring!
