So...I mentioned before that I used dirt dug from putting in an egress window. I didn't think it was too much like clay, but I knew it was a little. Well, as it turns out, its consistency is very thick. It is about 1.5 feet deep. I dug down, and am going to re-construct in into two different beds. Most of the shredded leaves I buried show no signs of decomposition. I will discard most of the less-than-ideal soil, and start over with some high quality topsoil and compost mix on top of the logs, sticks and leaves. Back to the drawing board it is. I always say about gardening, "It's all an experiment!"

This won't be happening any time soon, as we have gotten 3.5'' of rain in the last 36 hours, and it is supposed to keep raining for two more days. First chance of sun in Saturday.
