I have not gotten my Chinese Medicinals going yet. I have immature Goji and Ma Huang, so give me a couple of years. I do have a lot of the common stuff. Edibles/Medicinals in my yard are Sweet Violet, Purslane, Chocolate Mint, Lemon Mint, Curly Spearmint, Burdock, Oregano, Red Raspberry, some sort of Oregano/Marjoram, Thuja, Mallow, Mustard, Gout Weed, Vinca, Strawberries, Walking Onions and Chives. All make it through very cold winters.

There are Hibiscus that are perennial in the North. Read descriptions until you find one for your zone.
Don't make fear based decisions.
