A bloom is definitely sun-kissed color - LOVE it!
I've never been to CA, so definitely will take your word for that. We've only hit 100 a couple times this summer, so far anyway, and it's always humid. Dark pots get hot though, been trying to move plants in the sun to white ones when possible.
If the colors are there, there's enough sun, which can definitely vary by location, and especially time of day. And chuh, I burned some leaves this spring. We moved while plants were going outside for spring. Some of them got left in places I didn't intend, and/or didn't realize were so sunny. All recovered now though, no harm done except temporarily.
The Hoya gets some sun from about 3 PM until late evening, but the Kalanchoe is in it from mid-morning for the rest of the day. My fav thing this summer is the transformation of the little variegated burgundy rubber tree in the multi plant pic though. I'll take another one soon, drippy from rain earlier out there now.
