Here we are at the end of summer for some and in the thick of the hottest season for others.

I'm gaining a stronger appreciation for overhead watering by hand. I've been planting short perennials between my roses to cut down on the empty spaces that are so inviting to grassy weeds. It has been hot, so I'm hand watering those perennials every day. Despite the heat, the roses around these perennials are putting out so much new growth, including new basal canes! The roses that are hit by the timed sprinklers are also displaying some new growth, but nothing like the ones in the hand-watered locations.
