My Phals and Paphs are like that, indoors year round, by the west facing window, protected by the tree canopy shade in summer, the other orchids, Oncidiums, Dendrobiums, Maxillaria they go out during summer, but still protected by my growcamp and shade from the city trees, gets extra attention watering wise during our hotter drier days.. My Cymbidium and Vanda coerulea they stay outdoors year round. I have killed some along the way
but it taught me more and made me understand why. Usually it was my misunderstanding about their temperature needs that has made me fail..but now I know better. Much as I want more, can't do it, space limitations..and I like variety while being water prudent.
Start with a Phal, Fiat, easy enough found in grocery stores, it will teach you a lot about orchids. May take awhile..and a whole ton of patience for sure.
