I did notice after I planted grape vines that the jap beetles went to town on them more than anything else they had ever gone to town on in years past. I spent a lot of time knocking and stomping, but I'll get a bucket this year. I can't say they really hurt the plants, though--grapes grow so fast--but once the jap beetles got here, they sought out other things...
The other thing they found unerringly was the bat-faced cuphea I grew from seed. It was very small and actually hidden among some other plants, and once they found it, it was doomed never to grow into anything to speak of. Good thing I didn't use it as a feature plant! You can barely even find it in this picture. None of the plants around it suffered any damage whatsoever.
