On our labels the top line is the common name. Below is the genus name (Kalanchoe), specific epithet (thyrsiflora) and then the cultivar name (‘Flapjacks’). It would not be uncommon for someone to combine the cultivar name and common name in common speech and refer to this plant as Flapjack kalanchoe. We, however, do not repeat the cultivar name in the common name. We just use the common name used for the species Kalanchoe thyrsiflora (Genus name plus specific epithet).
