Okay, here is the info--you tell me--am I doing it wrong or is my browser preventing something?

Firefox 36.0.1 NoScript AddOn w/ATP allowed
In the category control panel, I added a new category, selected private, and clicked on add the category.
The new category appeared in the list.
I went to my user images page in a new tab and added a plant to the new category--clicked add plant, got the dialog box that says Plant added! and asks me to chose to either access my plant list or close the box. I closed the box. I refreshed my images page and the plant showed as in my list.
I then added a few more plants the exact same way to some of the old categories.
When I checked to see what can be seen by all,
all of the plants that I had just added were visible, and none of the plants that I had successfully edited to be invisible earlier in the day could be seen.
I then went to my lists management area where I could edit the plant that I had just added, clicked on the edit icon, and then edited nothing but selected save changes in order to make that plant become private.

I added another plant from my images list. This time I chose to access my plant list instead of closing the box. I was hoping to edit it right there and save changes. It took me away from the page I was working from to my plant list, where I had been last, but not to the plant that I just added or to the category I added it to. I then had to figure out what I just added so I could go find it to edit it--which was kind of annoying because I neglected to pay attention to what I had just added Rolling my eyes.

I also added one from the database to see if that was any different. It wasn't.

And in the end, I found that re-editing each of the categories to save changes was easier than editing each plant.

Anyway--the point is--I don't think the private plant list feature is working quite right for me.
If I have a category designated as private and I add a plant to that category without either accessing the plant in my plant list to edit it or the category to edit it with each new addition, the plant is added to my list and it, along with the category name, appears as public.
(good thing I got that category name back to private ~whew~)
