I have had lots of luck with these in a large clay pot outside. The Jewel of Desert series isn't as hardy as the new Wheels of Wonder series, but both have survived here. I also grew some in a hanging basket and brought them in for the winter. They do ok under a shop light indoors over the winter like house plants.

One that is more winter hardy is Fire Spinner. It stays green all winter and doesn't die even in the regular garden soil. Another good one is Delosperma ashtonii 'Blut.' Another good one is Delosperma 'Kelaidis.' All three of these stayed green through winter.

These are so cheap and easy to root. I think they would be worth it even if I had to buy some each year.
