Oh my goodness, I'm such a dunce- I thought it had been really quiet around here, but I'd forgotten to watch the July thread!

Zuzu, I love your layer cake photo!

It has been such an unusual summer here, significant rain almost every day. The roses have loved it and grown very well, and most have tried to bloom quite a bit, but Japanese beetles have devoured many before they could even open. The beetles are leaving me some to enjoy and haven't totally devoured anything, so I'm pretty happy with this growing season. Japanese beetles are strongly attracted to yellow blooms, and of course have really gone for Golden Fairy Tale. Interestingly they have not been going for Julia Child. J.C. was one I'd had for a year that hadn't increased in size, and I moved her this spring. She has responded well to the move and is doing well. I'll post some photos in the next day or so.
