Your method works because you water very little then come summer with more heat, they can take more water. It works for you. I water too much and also like to flush out a pot ever so offend. Also I do believe that some people are able to give off a warming glowing effect that plant respond to. I kill plants but I am persistent. Every success hides off many more in the compost pile. After watching 'The Mind of Plants'. I do believe they have a feeling to live for or to die. Just what influence this is unknown to me right now. I had a friend that any thing he touched, it grew. His garden was full of bushes and plants he got from friends cuttings. I would ask him but all he did was smile. He died a few years ago and believe it or not so did most of his garden.
