I understand that conflicting zone hardiness thing. I think zones at this point are not a good indicator of what will survive. I am suppose to be a zone 6 but some zone 5 can grow things I cannot because of the type of winter we get in this area.

We do not get cold and stay cold. We can be 30 one day and the next day 60. Then we can get rain for two weeks and the next two weeks of freezing rain going right to snow. Then 60 degrees. All the freeze thaw and freezing rain makes the soil a block of ice and plants do not have a chance. They would stand a better chance of surviving if I pulled the plant out of the soil and stomped on the plant.

Well it will be interesting to see how your garden develops next summer and what survives. One winter pallida survived in my garden
