I think the LA is a great place to obtain registered daylilies at a lower price than what many nurseries sell them for. But that is not always true. I've been exceedingly lucky this year getting cultivars for so cheap that I was amazed ... from online nurseries! And I got bonus plants too, which many LA sellers don't offer.
AND another great source for cultivars ... members here on ATP are some of the best sellers (and sharers) around. I perused the Classifieds here on ATP during middle to late summer for folks dividing their clumps and selling the extras for very cheap! Some of my best deals came from members selling or sharing their divided clumps. The past 12 months, I will have acquired 35 named daylilies. Most of these are even specific cultivars that I was looking for that show rust resistance. I feel like I hit the lotto or something to have so many that I wanted for very cheap. I, too, am on a VERY tight gardening budget. I never bought named and registered daylilies until this year because I didn't think I could afford them. My 300+ daylilies were all grown from seeds! Freebie seeds from generous members or cheap seeds won from the LA. My daylily collection and my hybridizing hobby got a huge boost this year with some great named daylilies! To say that I am thrilled... is an understatement!
