By the greenhouse From Deb/little Charlie 2019: Didn't make it through the winter this year. |
||
Norway Maple (Acer platanoides) |
Have Here & There |
Along the fence in the pasture. Identified due to milky sap. |
||
Amur Maple (Acer tataricum subsp. ginnala 'Flame') |
Have Here & There |
On the bank to lower yard. Slow growing, but hanging in there. Had great color last fall. |
||
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) |
Have Here & There Native |
2017: We had a lot in the pasture. It looked nice.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium 'Cerise Queen') |
Have Windmill |
It's blooming this year nicely, but I think it looks kind of washed out. I wonder if I gave it some acid if it would have more pop? |
||
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium 'Paprika') |
Have Z5 |
In the dry area next to porch. From Deb |
||
Monkshood (Aconitum 'Spark's Variety') |
Have Front |
This is the earlier, shorter, lacier one. From Deb |
||
Monkshood (Aconitum 'Stainless Steel') |
Prev Dead Zone |
Deb gave me some of this once and I think I put it over by the Astilbes. It's not there anymore and I can't remember it ever blooming, so I think I must have killed it off immediately.
Monkshood (Aconitum carmichaeli 'Arendsii') |
Have Front |
The taller one in the back.
Sweet Flag (Acorus calamus 'Variegatus') |
Prev Tender/Annuals Water |
Z4, FS-PS, may scorch with too much afternoon sun, moist to wet, average soil or mud, 2-2.5'
Japanese Sweet Flag (Acorus gramineus 'Ogon') |
Have Tender/Annuals Water Z5 Grasses |
Z5, FS-PS, moist soil or mud, 6"-1' 2021: I picked up 1 at Fred Meyers for the barrels, but they were too expensive to buy 3. Wish I would have done it anyway now. I'll try to find some smaller ones locally, but probably won't find any. I put the one I bought in the barrel on the south end. 2020: I had these in the barrels again and they did well. I tried to overwinter them in the pump-house, but it was a fail. 2019: I picked up 3 of these (4" pots) and they did well in the water barrels. In the fall, I threw them in the Z5 garden and spring of 2020, I see 2 of them that appear to be alive. |
||
Grassy Leaved Sweet Flag (Acorus gramineus 'Variegatus') |
Have Tender/Annuals Water Z5 Grasses |
Conflicting information about the hardiness - some say Z6, MOBO & Perennials.com both say Z5. 2017: These did quite well in the water barrels this summer. I plunked them down in the Z5 garden, mulched with leaves, and said "I hope to see you in the spring." |
||
Bugbane (Actaea racemosa 'Atropurpurea') |
Have Front |

Bishop's Weed (Aegopodium podagraria 'Variegatum') |
Have Front Bank |
This is really looking good this year. From Deb |
||
Anise Hyssop (Agastache 'Blue Fortune') |
Have Corner |
2017: Planted back in the corner somewhere around the wheelbarrow I think. I'm not sure if this is still there? |
||
Anise Hyssop (Agastache aurantiaca 'Apricot Sprite') |
Have Tender/Annuals |
Z6 Hummingbird Mint, AKA 'Mexican Hyssop' 2023: From seed - 4 plants. I planted 1 next to the garage door. Put the other 3 in a cluster by the porch. These will probably be an annual for me, but they're nice. They didn't get any size to them, but did all bloom. We'll see if they might come back next year, but I'm not holding my breath. |
||
Anise Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) |
Have Z5 |
2019: Planted 2 or 3 from seed on the garage side. The one by the door is nice and healthy. Not sure about the others.
Threadleaf Giant Hyssop (Agastache rupestris) |
Prev Dead Zone |
Still tiny - planted 2014 from seed. Dry area of Z5. 2019: It's not there any more. |
||
Lavender Hyssop (Agastache scrophulariifolia) |
Have Front Bank Z5 |
Over 6 feet tall last year with white flowers. This year about 4 feet tall with purple flowers. Also one on the front bank - very small. |
