Have Greenhouse |
The ones near the barrel have plain, bright green leaves. The ones by the outside corner of the GH has bronze leaves. I had Burgundy Glow planted there originally. I wonder if it morphed into something else?

Five-Leaf Chocolate Vine (Akebia quinata) |
Have Knick Knack |
This guy is still alive and climbing up the obelisk. Yay! I should get one more to really make a statement here - I've tried about 10 different things on this obelisk and the only thing that ever looked great was morning glory one year.

Onion (Allium cepa 'Red Burgermaster') |
Will Vegetables |
90-100 days. Sweet onion. Does not store long. This was a very large, juicy, mild red onion. We grew it a few years and loved it, but then just couldn't find it any more. 2008: This was the last year we were able to find starts for this. It was a great slicing onion for burgers and such. |
||
Onion (Allium cepa 'Red River F1') |
Will Vegetables |
95 days. Hybrid. 3-4", sweet. Stores 3-5 mo. These have become our go-to red onions. They're very mild and almost slightly sweet, good sized, and excellent keepers. 2022: Nice starts. Cold May so they're not getting a lot bigger yet. Cold wet spring, the weeds grew like weeds will. The onions were all really small this year. We left a bunch of them in the garage in a trug and kind of forgot about them. It's March and I was cleaning out the garage. They are firm and fresh, and we had a really cold winter. I'm thinking it's the best place to store them if we're at home. 2021: They aren't getting weeded, so they aren't doing well 2020: We got a lot, but they didn't have much size to them this year. 2019: Small starts this year, but they did OK until the stinking gophers started eating them! We got a few small ones. 2018: Did well 2017: We got a bumper crop this year! We took a bunch south with us, but they got bitter after a while. Probably too warm in the RV down in Mexico. 2016: These are it! 2015: Really good onions! 2014: These are great! Big onions, tasty, keep for months. |
||
Onion (Allium cepa 'Red Zeppelin') |
Prev Vegetables |
100-110 days. Hybrid. 3-4", slightly pungent. Stores 6-8 mo. We grew this one twice. It grew fine for us, but the taste wasn't there. 2012: Love the name, onions are so-so. 2009: Didn't get very big. These were somewhat underwhelming. Maybe it was the year. |
||
Onion (Allium cepa 'Redwing') |
Prev Vegetables |
100-120 days. Hybrid. 3-4", slightly pungent. Stores 8-10 mo. We grew this one for a few years until we tried Red River and decided we liked it better. This one wasn't bad, just a bit hotter than the other one. It grew well for us. 2013: Did well. Good keepers. 2011: Pretty good this year. 2010: These were better than the reds we grew last year. |
||
Onion (Allium cepa 'Walla Walla Sweet') |
Will Vegetables |
90 days, OP. 6" sweet. Stores 1 mo. We do these every year - so delicious in salsa and used fresh while they last. They don't keep well at all. 2022: The starts were quite a bit smaller than the reds again. Cold May, not a lot of growth, but they look healthy enough. None of the onions did well this year. Very small. Might skip onions next year. 2021: They didn't get weeded and we only got a few small onions this year. So sad. 2019: All the onion starts were smaller this year, but they are doing well. Update - the gophers are eating all the dang onions! |

Stars of Persia (Allium cristophii) |

Used to have some in the Corner also, but they're gone now.
Golden Garlic (Allium moly) |

||
Chives (Allium schoenoprasum) |
Have New Perennials this year Herb |
These have been here forever. They have quite a bit of grass growing amongst them. I may need to do a major clean up weed and try to plant some more afterwards. 2023: I got the idea to start a bunch from seed to fill in if I ever clean that mess out. They came up pretty good, but I only ended up with a few to plant out. They're back near the garlic chives, out of the grass that's taking over the rest of the chives. |
