    This year I have bought this kind of Sempervivum 'Cmíral Yellow "(20 pieces)
    I wonder what will be the spring colors. And have a nice yellow. No big small rosette. Unfortunately no photos yet. This year has brought a lot of drive.

    A note from the hybridizer, Kevin Vaughn:

    JungleShadows said:Hi friends,
    The name for 'Positively Glowing' came from a BBC report on Princess Kate where she was "positively glowing" in her pregnancy! Thank you BBC! Great name.

    Enjoy!

    this plant is not the real S. 'Chivalry'; we have had this plant in german collections too;

    in 12/2010 the breeder told Erwin Geiger how his cultivar has to look like:

    "S. 'Chivalry' is a velvety red, sort of like an improved more narrow-leaved version of 'Cleveland Morgan'."

    the wrong plant shown here looks very similar to Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum x christii 'Collecteur Anchisi'); in germany we all placed it to the NOIDs nevertheless;

    in 08/2012 we found a plant in an old collection which seems to be the right one; but it has to be checked around the year and presented to the breeder for a final conclusion;

    Here is an interesting comment made by Kevin Vaughn:
    JungleShadows said:Peter,

    Interesting that 'Killer' is behaving the same in Germany. The 'Killer' X self seedlings show these striking changes but interestingly the 'Jungle Shadows' X 'Killer' seedlings seem to be year round very intense, almost as though it captured one one of the phases of 'Killer', but these seedlings don't change much. In some of the other crosses with 'Killer' the changeable colors show in some of the seedlings but others also capture one of the phases of 'Killer' but in a more permanent state.

    When 'Jungle Shadows' first appeared as a seedling I was amazed at how well the color held up. In those days it was one of the few that did have color all year. Most turned green. I remember my call from Helen Payne after she received that plant "We can sell LOTS of that one Kevin". Amazingly, 45 years later they still are selling it! In the seedlings from self pollinating 'Jungle Shadows' there have been a majority of seedlings that keep color year round.

    Sempervivum 'Goldmarie' is new in the United States. It was brought from Erwin Geiger in Germany, in 2012 by a group that imported approximately 25 to 30 European cultivars. We are very excited about these new semps. So far Goldmarie has maintained wonderful golden tones through most of the seasons.

    This sempervivum has been mistaken for Minaret for many years.
    Here is a further explanation of S. 'Skrocki 51' x 'Minaret' http://garden.org/thread/view_...

    At some point it will be given an official name, which it more than deserves.

    This is a very striking sempervivum in the summer. Medium to large in size, and a good producer of offsets. Handles our very wet winter and spring seasons.
  • By valleylynn (Oregon City, OR - Zone 8b) on Oct 2, 2013 1:31 PM concerning plant: Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Casa')
    The incorrect photos of S. 'Casa' have been removed from the database. The ones entered now are correct.
    This has been verified by the breeder Martin Haberer, through Peter Dieckmann.

    comment from Alan C. Smith
    (from "Sempervivums & Jovibarbas" 2. edition 1980)

    Brunneifolium (dark form) - We have re-named this form as only one clone is permissible to occupy a single Cultivar name. The new name we have chosen is 'Chocolate'.

    A very fine plant having slightly less compact rosettes than Brunneifolium with dark chocolate coloured rosettes. Mr. Hugh Miller verbally mentioned that he received this form from Praeger under S. marmoreum f. brunneifolium No. 2

    ---------

    addition from me:

    S. marmoreum 'Brunneifolium' = S. marmoreum f. brunneifolium - but this botanical name was never accepted by the botanists; so it was renamed like a cultivar;

    I guess that S. 'Casa' has to look totally different; I can't believe the photos here were showing the right plant;

    the breeder Martin Haberer is a good semps-friend of mine and we get this plant from him directly; furthermore his description won't fit to the photos here....

    I will load up our photos to the database;

  • By banker07 (Germany) on Sep 24, 2013 8:22 AM concerning plant: Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Boule de Neige')
    the name S. 'Boule de Nigre' appears some time; but it should be only a wrong writing of the cultivar S. 'Boule de Neige'; any time we find the wrong name, the research of the source came to the same result:

    the handwriting of André Smits causes this confusion; sometimes he himself made this mistake;

    a cultivar S. 'Boule de Nigre' has never been named;
  • By banker07 (Germany) on Sep 23, 2013 7:07 AM concerning plant: Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Bernstein')
    there are a lot of wrong plants with this name - often they are similar to S. 'Alchemist' but it's not sure they are;

    the correct S. 'Bernstein' has to bloom yellow - all the others are wrong labeled;

  • By banker07 (Germany) on Sep 21, 2013 3:44 AM concerning plant: Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum tectorum var. tectorum (boissieri))
    that's no cultivar - it's a natural form; Baker is not the breeder - he first described this species;

    in the past known under S. boissieri [hort. ex Baker (1879)] - later it was sortet to S. tectorum var. tectorum;

    the actual name has to be:

    S. tectorum var. tectorum (boissieri) - also sold as S. boissieri and S. 'Boissieri'

    There are two different cultivars with the same name 'Beate.'

    The photos in this database entry don't show the 'Beate' bred by Bill Keen - they show the other 'Beate,' bred by Günther Dillmann / Germany (S. tectorum - cultivar). If two different plants have exactly the same name, we in germany will give the one bred later the add-on "( II )"; I don't know how ATP wants to handle this.
