This is a little aggressive about re-seeding if you don't deadhead it. Tall, woody, perennial plants that I cut down to 6" each Fall or Spring. Prefers dry, poor soil or clay. Tends to shoot up tall and then flop if pampered.

Unless some neighbor has a Lavatera that doesn't show from the road, these were isolated from any cross-pollination. I had many growing on my property, all from one shipment from Hirt's Nursery, so I expect this seed is "pure something". Everything that has re-seeded looks exactly like the parents, over 3-4 years.

However, Hirt's called this 'Barnsley', a "periclinal chimaera" of the cultivar 'Rosea', but it looks exactly like the cheaper, common 'Rosea'. Maybe it reverted to plain pink before the first tiny plant grew up. Probably it really was 'Rosea', so seed should come true.

If really 'Barnsley', seed might be hybrid F2: variable offspring. (That is, if a "periclinal chimaera" has variable offspring when self-crossed. I don't know.)

I thought I saw someone had Mississippi Silver cowpeas on their wish-list, so made a pack.
One pack was with @SCButtercup in mind, some cabbage collards.
And a few packs of salvias.

Rick, are any of your lettuces especially pretty? I am good at growing lettuce! I want to have lots of beautiful edible greens in my future kitchen garden - once I get someone to help me move the -heavy, ugly park bench in the way! The bench (assuming it survives the move without needing new wood planks) will be getting a makeover next summer . It will be near the new fire pit where it belongs!

My bad! I made them "available", but didn't turn the gray check green. It's green now.

Meh. Not what's listed, mostly. Lettuce (Lactuca sativa 'Breen') is a bronze-red Romaine type.

For "pretty", or at least colorful, try these, which I haven't listed, but might if I find time and have enough left.

I didn't do well with peas this spring because the snow stayed on the ground too late! When it finally thawed it was too wet then too hot. I should plant peas in March (around my grandmother's/aunt's birthday) but I couldn't think of planting seeds directly in the ground until nearly Memorial day last year.

the past two years were unusually cold and snowy. I'll see what this winter/spring brings...

For me, "too wet to direct-sow peas" describes all of spring and early summer. When it's cold and wet, they rot. When it's cool and wet, they rot. It helped one year when I put up plastic on a frame that shed rain away from the raised bed. It dried part way out earlier. And pre-soaking or even pre-germinating helps.

But my summer is cool enough that I can plant peas late.

I added two radishes, alphabetized under "Radish". They are old seeds, 2011, but there's 1/2 tsp each.

I added around 5 new lettuces, mostly 2013, mostly 1/2 tsp or 1 tsp. Some list under "butterhead" and some list under "Lettuce".

However (my bad) some of those already existed in my swap list. For now, I left the duplicate rows in place, which might confuse Dave's feature that tells you when you have already dibbsed an item. But I have enough seeds to cover the quantities listed in both rows, combined.

My grandmother planted peas every year around her birthday. every year we had peas. I do the same....but....afgh. I'll keep trying.

She also planted her tomato seeds in cut milk cartons in February, set them on the dining room windows. By summer,. we had tomatoes galore! The plants never damped off, always produced, no problems. She didn't use fancy cultivars or gear. She was beyond frugal.

We planted orange pips, avocado pits anything I thought about. They grew too!

I wish she were around to give me some pointers. She would have gotten a kick out of sharing seeds with people all over the world and hearing about their lives and gardens.

You're right, Rick -- it didn't occur to me that it would make it hard to find if I called it by the name that I use, instead of the name that the DB uses. Another reason why I would prefer it to list according to the scientific name. (I also know it by the synonym Centaurea montana, at least I didn't throw that in to add to the confusion )

Where is Humpty-Dumpty when we need him? He knew the difference between what a thing is called, and its name.

Actually I think this is one tiny aspect of The Librarian's Problem. You can have all the information in the world, but it doesn't help if you can't find what you want.

Same goes for seeds.

Thanks for listing the beans -- all my faves are Romano types, and I love pole beans because they take up so little room and save one's back in terms of picking. Have you ever grown the black-seeded version?
