I bought my first at an orchid show. It had two flower spikes and of course I was very excited to see it bloom. Unfortunately shortly after I got it home, I noticed black spots on some of the leaves and watched as some of the leaves turned yellow.
I contacted the seller and she said the plant must have gotten cold which I know was not the case.
Eventually and to my horror the buds and spikes blackened. I couldn't stand it so I removed them and the damaged leaves. I treated the remainder with hydrogen peroxide. All was well for a number of weeks but now I see two more leaves are turning yellow and have spots on them.
Can anyone tell me what to do? Right now I'm in Connecticut but will be moving to the Sebastian FL area in two weeks.

Welcome!

You may want to request this thread be moved to the Orchid Forum to find out more about this plant. Please don't start a new thread, just ask that this one be moved. @Australis or @Calif_Sue?

But, I suspect, this is one of those orchids that blooms, grows a couple new pseudobulbs and then the old pseudobulbs shed their leaves and become dormant. The only pseudobulb I see with yellowing leaves is the one in the center, probably the parent of the two side bulbs.

As one of Galiopetalum Jumping Jack Starburst's parents is a Zygopetalum (I've never heard of the other but I've never heard of Galiopetalum either), I would treat it like a Zygopetalum.

The other parent I think is Galeandra. I do think that the plant may have been exposed to the cold. Damage is quick and sweeping and extensive.
This type of Orchid needs cooler temperatures which would be low 70's in the summer days, 68-72 during the winter.
They like cooler nights of around 58-62 during the summer and 52-56 or so during the winter. They like a media with a small particle size. They do better in plastic pots because they hold more moisture. They also require limited direct sunlight. Maybe an hour or so in the morning, then just bright for the remainder of the day. They should be watered well and then dry out a bit before being watered again. (They should not go bone dry between waterings) limited fertilizer at 1/4 strength quarterly.
Good luck and I hope you read and browse all of our threads to learn about growing orchids.
I gave you cultural directions in general because as the plant is a hybrid we can't be specific. We CANT tell you so much of this and so much of that and exactly so many degrees for so many days. But make sure the pot has adequate drainage holes and you do not grow it within another pot. That leads to drying issues. I tip my hat to you.

Thanks for the response. This orchid is planted in New Zealand moss in a black plastic pot. Because I cannot see the medium, I have a bamboo skewer in it to check the moisture level. The light and heat levels you suggest I am providing.
I am heartened that you see the black on the leaves as having suffered a chill.
I absolutely fell in love with this hybrid and was devastated when the buds turned black and fell off.
I've been concerned it is a virus and have been contemplating tossing it out.
Thanks again for your input. You have given me hope and hopefully our move to Florida next week will help as well.

Well, you are welcome.
I doubt about it being any type of disease or insect problem.
Why? Well it is not because that they don't suffer from them, they do. But it is the timing, nothing but shock from a temperature stand point, or heat stress could cause problems within a few short days. If you place an orchid in a car, even with the windows cracked a bit, an hour of that warmth could cause catastrophic problems!

Sorry to hear of the issues with your plant, Barb! Bill's given good advice and I agree that it is most likely an environmental shock that has caused these symptoms.

By the way, I think the name for your plant is Orchid (Galeopetalum Starburst) (which is Orchid (Galeottia fimbriata) X Orchid (Zygopetalum Jumpin Jack)).
