Can adenium flower indoor with LED grow light?
If can how to get the right LED grow light?
Is it the Grow light watt or the PAR value falling on the adenium plant?
I am new to this forum. If I post at the wrong place please help me shift to the right
place

Thank You

Honestly, I have used this one in the past for other plants. I plan to try this on my second batch of seedlings since I live in Florida and rain season is upon us. So I am sure that unstable days are to come temperature wise.

BriteLabs LED Grow Lights for Indoor Plants, 45W Full Spectrum Bulbs.

If you copy that and look it up, the first option on google to Amazon.

I only buy BriteLabs. I have had others burn plants before. Plus if anything is wrong, call them first, they will fix the problem.

Bringing this topic back up to see what kind of indoor lighting that anyone has experience with for growing seeds. My plant stands I have set up using Daylight bulbs. Some are still florescent & some have been switched over to newer style LED bulbs in shoplights. I have also used Sam's Club LED shop lights that are 5000K hung between my plant stands for tall plants that I cannot fit in the stands (TOO MANY PLANTS!). This has been fine for growing rain lilies, coleus, sweet potato vine, begonias, hoya, Christmas cactus, etc.

I noticed today that my seedlings on the end are leaning towards the lights as they are not quite under them. So I may have to get better lighting. Thanks

Great idea 💡 this is perfect timing for winter too. Maybe @Baja_Costero can make this a sticky for our Adenium forum.

I'm also linking Baja's thread for artificial lighting since it is also applicable to us.

The thread "Artificial light for cacti and other succulents" in Cactus and Succulents forum

@2ManyPlants Walt and @Murky Nancy do use artificial lightings for their adeniums. Maybe they can share their experience too.

I originally made this one 2' long just using 3/4" PVC tubing, parts were about $11 to make the stand at Home Depot. I didn't glue the pieces in case I wanted to change it, and for spring seeds, I now extend it to 4' long and hang 2 of the lights on it. They're light enough that even not glued, the PVC holds them without a problem. The chains was my cheap way to be able to raise or lower the lights when needed just by wrapping it around the center tube.

This is the LED Grow Light I bought at Amazon, then just bought a 2nd one a few years later when I wanted to extend it to 4'. There's a short connector that goes between them so there's only power cord to deal with, and those metal rings come with it where I attach the chains. Hooked it up to a timer I had laying around and I've been using it for at least 5 years now. It's what I'm using for the adenium seeds and they're growing without any problems. There's an east-facing window about 6' to the left of where the seedlings are, but they don't reach for the window light at all, the LEDs seem to be enough. This setup works great for all my spring annuals too. They do give off a weird color though, but that's not an issue at all for me.

Here I started moonflower seeds, these are about 2 months old. I've had them bloom under these, many of the annuals start to bloom within the 2 months they're inside as well, so I've been pretty happy with this setup. I wanted something flexible, and this does everything I want.

Nancy, thanks for the info. Very nice build for the light stand. PVC pipe prices have gone up a lot but it still has lots of uses other than for sprinklers.

It's not furniture grade PVC, I agree that stuff is expensive. But what I used is just the regular plumbing grade with red and black ink printing on the side (you can remove that ink with acetone or any nail polish remover). It's just $.56/foot, I might have paid slightly more because they had 2' sections for sale and I figured less cutting and still cheap enough.

There's only 8' of PVC used for the 2' frame above: 3 - 2' pieces for the top and 2 sides; and the feet are made of 4 - 6" lengths. The connectors range from $.50 to maybe $1 at most, so you can still make it for $11. To extend it to 4' long, I just needed 1 more 2' piece and 1 connector. At least that's our local prices at Home Depot right now in the Chicago area.

It was ridiculously easy, you can count the few pieces used from the photo. These are 3/4" pvc pipe and connectors, the pipe is easily cut with a small hacksaw:
3 - 2' pvc pipe
4 - 6" pvc pipe
2 - elbows
2 - Ts
4 - end caps

And that's it.

Where I live, winters get very dark, so plant lights are absolutely necessary. The retail ones are generally quite expensive, but I've been using IP65 LED armatures meant for garages that I mounted on simple consoles and shelves. They work quite well for my adeniums. Since they are not as easy to shift the heights of, I'm changing the placement of the plants instead of the placement of the lights to keep it appropriate.

In windowsills and other places where a fixture like that may not be great, I'm using SunLite telescopic lights that you just stick in the pot. The ones I'm using are 7W/660 lumen, which is not a lot, but apparently enough to cause the adeniums to bloom even now in the dark of November.

You are Welcome! I just gave you acorn tips so you can get your adenium badge :).

Also check out this thread for hand pollination so you can easily increase your collections from seed and share the fruits of your hand pollination:

You have a good setup, Ylis. I agree about the retail price of plant lights with stands is generally ridiculously expensive, which is why I looked into make my own too. With the adenium seedlings, I might have to put together another 2' one by spring, when I'll need the light they're currently under for my spring seeds. I don't think just being in the south window will be enough for them. But it will be only from mid-March to mid-May hopefully, with some days being able to put them outside, so not sure which way I'll go yet.

I ended up purchasing a couple lights that were on sale on Amazon. 【LED Full Spectrum Grow Light】This 60Watts plant grow light full spectrum,it has white, blue, green, yellow, red and IR (3000K, 5000K, 660nm and IR 750nm, 3000K providing more reddish light and the 5000K providing more blueish. Fits a 2x2ft tent. I can tell the light does not completely cover those corners so may order a 3rd light. Sometime I should get more seeds. Grow them under these lights & another set under my normal daylight 4ft bulbs (a mix of fluorescent & LED in shop light fixtures) to compare which grows the seedlings better.

I figured out what to do about lights when I have to keep them in the basement. I bought the same light as I have but in a 4' length, so I can use that for the seeds since the stand is always stretched to 4' now.

And then I'll use the two 2' lights that used to be on the seeds for the adeniums. I'll make a new PVC stand with a double row of lights probably 1.5'-2' apart so it'll give me a much wider area to have several rows of plants bunched together.

Nice! Go for it Nancy and we would like to see the finished product and set up.

Mine will have to do with my "camping tents" for the winter mostly to protect them from getting wet winter time. Wet winter is catastrophic for my desert roses.
