Eric,

Salvia coccinea varieties bloom from spring to fall.

I'll think of others some other time when I'm not so tired.

Mealycup Sage (Salvia farinacea 'Victoria Blue') has been blooming profusely without deadheading here in zone 6b since spring. It is a very popular annual here in spring and is available in inexpensive four packs or six packs.

Mealycup Sage (Salvia farinacea 'Victoria Blue')

Here is my garden as it appeared on October 8; Victoria Blue is circled In white; it has begun to decline (as of October 17) but is still blooming; it is too windy to photograph today:

Many of the newer Salvia farinacea hybrid types have very long blooming seasons, and are not as fussy as the species itself. 'Big Blue' & 'Magic Wand' are two we have trialed and loved.

Kermit @FTBS,

Those are very nice photos. Would you be willing to upload them to the database? There are no photos of either cultivar yet. Yours would be the first. You can just click on the links I have placed below the cultivar names.

Your comments would also be very helpful to the NGA community.

As time allows, it would be great if you would upload photos of other Salvia cultivars that you would recommend.

Thank you.

Salvia microphylla "hot lips" blooms here spring to fall. Sometimes it flags in midsummer, but a quick light shear and it continues until frost. Salvia coccinea "lady in red" (Texas sage) seems to be one of the toughest annual sages. Mine reseed readily, and still come back after I bought the original plant about 15 years ago. Proven for all sorts of pollinators.

Gardenfish,

Sounds like this sage is available as a seed, do you know where I can purchase it ? I live in Canada on East coast and we do not have access to plants so I am happy to grow my own if I can get seeds.

Also does Hot Lips produce any seeds at all, I am desperate up here for some different varieties?

I am trying to remember where I saw the seeds for sale. When I remember, I will send you a tree Mail. As for hot lips, I have never seen seeds for sale. I bought mine at Master Gardeners plant sale. Because this is perennial, maybe it must be propagated from cuttings? Not sure that is right either, I have seen seeds of other perennial salvias for sale. I will get back to you, @karimari. Thumbs up

Hot Lips is clonal - that is it must be propagated vegetatively.

This past year, "wild thing" bloomed the entire spring, summer, and fall for me, until we were hit with our early frosts and snowstorms here in Colorado. It is a greggii.
