Wow, you guys are all so wonderful!

LAlambchop- Gorgeous thank you!

Earlybird Daylilies has a great reputation and I hear she sends way more than you expect. People say they have seen the largest and healthiest plants they ever got from anyone...and these are people who order from lot's of places. I am so excited that my order will be here next week!!

I have some questions and I'm not sure if I should start a new thread or keep on using this one...so I will keep on using this one until I'm told otherwise.

1. I'm reading about potting mix for daylilies. I will be grwoing some in pots and in raised beds. The raised beds need to be filled because they haven't been used in about 3 years. So now is the time to find out the perfect recipe for daylilies. I have read about people mixing...um...let's see...if I can remember it all....

Pine Bark
Pine Mulch
Lime
Chicken Litter (I don't even know what this is!)
Alfalfa Pellets
Compost
Potting Soil
Fertilizer

I need the "Divine Recipe" for "Cooking Daylilies" Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

This will be the perfect time to do it right. Can someone give me amounts, ratio's of this stuff?
Where do you buy chicken litter and alfalfa pellets??

DOT!!-- Thank you for that information about the LilyAuction! I tried to register again last night and it said they don't allow more than one reg. per E-mail. So I finally E-mailed the problem with registration to them and asked them to let me know what a girl should do?? I gotta join!! I shopped anyway, knowing I couldn't have any of it. Blinking Hilarious! Hilarious! I'm sure they will help me...Thank you for the info about the license...now that I can do!

For those who have read my story above about how I stole my first daylily....
Here is kind of a funny update.

I told my husband that I shared the story here about how he tried to kill my "baby" after I stole her.
I told him when I stole her my conscience didn't even let me steal a second fan for "insurance" in case she didn't grow!
He said, Fan?? You call that a fan??
What I took out of that pot was nothing but 2 leaves!
I said, "Yes, but those two leaves were worth more to me than our whole garden!!
He said, Wow! I guess I didn't read "her" right....I thought it was just a little piece of grass.... Glare
But in the end, I found out that she is worth more to you than the whole garden...and maybe me too!
So I think these two leaves she gave were her Victory Sign. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Ann told me that people name their unidentified ones...
So her name will be Victory Sign....if she lives. Hurray!

Here is another funny addendum to the story.
Peach Princess is my Avatar.
I contacted Eiseman to see if I could get some of her.
He doesn't make a business of selling, but he does sell some.
So I waited with anticipation while he checked his garden to see "if she is still there." Sad

For those who read my story you can see that I was told several times to "Wait until Fall." when I asked for my Peach!

Then I broke down and stole her in the Spring!

Then I am going going to buy my own peaches on the Lilyauction and they won't let me register!

Now I get the message from Eiseman....
Yes he has Peach Princess! Drooling Drooling Hurray!

But I should wait until Spring to plant her Blinking Confused Blinking

...he doesn't plant in the Fall! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I think this is a hilarious ending for my story!

I've only really coveted two dayliles...it may take patience, perseverance, stepping out of bounds, and determination, but in the end, the Victory will be Mine!
nodding nodding

Hey Dot! Yes I will be doomed if they approve me on the Lilyauction.....

Just to chime in on Robin Calderon, I bought from her last year when that area was in a bad drought. She did bring in tankers of water and did not ship anything substandard and did give generously. She is a rock solid seller and in my top three resources, along with Maryott's and Bob Selman at Blue Ridge...uh oh...well, Trudy, there is another one for which you can point a finger at my enabling. About 3/4 of the daylilies in my yard came from Bob. You can order via email from his website, and he sells on eBay and through the Blooming Auction. (I buy via eBay).
http://www.blueridgedaylilies....

From what I have heard just here on the daylily forum, I would definitely buy from Robin. I also purchased from Bob Selman twice, once on Blooming Auction, and once on eBay. I bid on eleven daylilies and got all but one for 10.00, then he gave me a second chance offer on the one I lost, and sold it to me for 10.00. Then when I received my order there were seven bonus plants in there and all were huge! A lot of the daylilies I bought, I saw on other websites for a lot more money, like A SERVANTS HAND, it was on Marietta's for 35.00, and MY SOUL SURRENDERED was 50.00, I got both for 10.00 each.

Yes, Trudy it was not so long ago that Mary was the guest of honor on a thread like this. She got talked into going to an AHS meeting for her area & the rest is history! Let's see... today she brought home a boatload of coveted dl's for $80 7 can't figure out where she's going to plant them all! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing You see; she's already run out of room & will have to make more & more raised beds. Hilarious! Hilarious! You guys are hilarious!! You are cracking me up here!

I think there is something seriously wrong with me....I have been staying up until 3:00 AM studying daylillies! Than I come here and find a whole bunch of people just like me!

I love it!

Yep, I'm in big trouble....

I have something like 200 feet by 3.5 feet of raised beds that have not had anything grown in them for about 4 years. Can you imagine??

So they are gonna need some soil, compost, pine bark, chicken litter, alfalfa, whatever you all recommend. I don't have near the money for this...but the beds are just sitting there empty.

I have my few little lillies in pots...But I am envisioning all this room for daylillies and how pretty it could be around here! We have only done veggie gardening and dianthus. Now I have my "calling". Jeez...this is crazy...we don't even own this place...we rent a townhouse but it is surrounded with the raised beds my husband built with timbers leftover from some building projects here on the property and the owner didn't object to us using them to make raised beds... um yeah...if I keep buying daylillies...we will have to stay here forever whether we own it or not! I love this place anyway.

I know how to mark their names...I have a beautiful peach thread to choose from.
Oh my god...

Hey remember what I said about coveting only two daylillies? Yeah well now I have lists and I am making a second list of who I would like to see crossed with who! Even though I don't know how to do it yet! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I was lost in threads here last night and saw someone named "Hementia"!!
That is hilarious!! And it totally describes me!

I can't let hubby see the prices....sssshhh don't tell him people can pay $100 for one flower fan!
This all has to be a secret.....
We are just gonna try and trust that a few fans here and there will not be noticed by him! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

You guys are terrible for me! But I love it!!!

Now who's gonna give me the chicken litter recipe for my daylillies, or is it just sand and pine bark?? Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I have no clue what I am doing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
But next year I am posting photo's for you guys!!. He likes to take pictures of my flowers!!

I tease him that we don't have a penny to our name, but I have the Hanging Gardens of Babylon because he built them for me....and I'm so happy now that I know what I can grow here! The chive and leek beds weren't nearly as pretty as the daylilies will be! Can't wait! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Trudy, if you have a friend who keeps chickens, or a chicken farm nearby, you can get "chicken litter." Does that help you figure out what it is? BUT you can't use FRESH chicken litter - it needs to age or it will be too powerful. You can buy it in some stores, although I don't know that I've ever seen it in Lowes/HD.

And this thread will give you an idea of the masters-level enablers you've stumbled into... http://garden.org/thread/go/74... It's my "oh my gosh, I'm addicted" thread from last Jan. In January of this year, I'd never even heard of Daylily Societies - now I belong to 2 local ones and the national one. And I've added close to six dozen daylilies to my yard since mid-March. That's like one dozen per month! Blinking So far I've stayed away from the LA, and all other online sales locations -- having a friend with almost 3000 cultivars in her garden, and 2 great local clubs that have door-prizes and sales has been all I need.

Like you, my mother hated "Tiger Lilies," and like you, what she was fighting in our backyard probably wasn't really a daylily, but it was enough to keep me away from them until I was pushing 50. That thread I linked to will give you an idea of how quickly you can succumb, once you get past the "I hate Tiger Lilies" phase. Hilarious! And Doris told me I could fit 72 daylilies in an 8x16 bed, so that will give you an idea of the room you have in those fabulous beds your DH made.

And add epsom salts to your list, if it's not there already. DLs love the magnesium in it. I add alfalfa pellets, bone meal, and epsom salts to my beds when I plant.

Drumroll please................

Tonight at 1:30 AM....

After 2 years of searching photo's of peachy daylilies........

I FOUND HER!! Hurray!

Thanks to the Pretty Peach thread where it was suggested that I look at other color for peach hues....

Tonight I decided to search Selfs... It took less than 5 minutes to find her!

I am 100% sure this the stolen Peach Daylily!!

Although she is still very tiny....I have no doubt she will bloom out to be Prescott Park!

I'd never considered Selfs at all since my perfect peach has a yellow and green throat!

Now isn't that just the most beautiful flower you have ever seen?

I am so relieved to know her name!

I can't believe I identified her after just a few days of telling my story here!
You guys are truly amazing~!!

Elizabeth Salter was the closest thing I'd ever seen to what I saw in that garden...but she was not quite as perfect as my Perfect Peach!.
That is too funny! Turns out she was the mother!

I feel Wonderful right now!!! Hurray!
