as for tropicals I can grow some but I will have to find
a place to put them when the weather turns cold.
here in Houston we do get some cold weather in the
months from December to February on occasion though
I have known years here in Houston, TX when the temperature
never dropped below freezing 32 F / 0 C
I have one, it is getting a flower again this year, but last two the cold temps down below freezing a couple times killed a few branches on it and I didn't get any flowers last year. Mine is in the ground. If you plant one, keep it in a huge pot that you can move to warm place, or you can dig up the plant and store it in the winter in a closet wrapped in newspaper. I'm never getting another one, too much trouble for me, many other nice tropical plants that bounce back after freezes.
