As my collection of plants has expanded, I am building new raised beds to plant in. What is the best way to water daylillies, or does it matter? Right now I have soaker hoses in the beds, but since I'm re-doing them, was wondering if there was a better/more preferred way. I live in the high desert area, so it gets really hot and dry in the summer. Thanks!

I have tried soaker hoses, I have tried sprinklers. I have not used drip, but I know a few people who have and it does not provide the necessary water for daylilies to reach their potential stats and when digging and moving daylilies it is hard to keep drip in the right places it seems. But I live in Alabama, and even though it often seems like we are in drought I think we are probably one of the wettest states. I still use sprinklers when I get really busy and just don't have time to hand water. But, the most efficient watering I do is with a hose and a water wand, some I like much better than others. I am on city water, and we are blessed to have great water pressure here in our location.

I use elevated rotaries in the "back 40" and in-ground sprinklers around the house in TX. Well water, no chlorine. Everything on a timer during the dry. I bypass them if it rains and generally off Nov-Feb. Usually don't have to water in MI but it's a hose if I do. Treated Lake Huron water.

I use a sprinkler or hand water some newer ones with a water wand. Nice thing with DLs is if you sprinkle there will be new flowers the next day.

I use a sprinkler. No way to use any other way on the hill/slope that makes up the majority of my garden. I swear by a water gauge and try to provide supplemental irrigation at anything under an inch a week. Our water bill usually doubles in July.
