Hi!

A month ago, I purchased a Philodendron from a professional seller who offered it cheap as they had failed to identify it. To me, it looks like an Imperial Green or an Imperial Red, but what is up with the apricot pink leaf? The seller had no explanation for it.

Does anyone here recognise the type?

It does look like Imperial Green. The 'apricot' leaf looks like an older leaf that is aging and getting ready to die off

Thank you for your reply! You may be right, though I hope you're wrong. Smiling

The pink is rather strikingly bright and doesn't seem to have changed since I received the plant. By contrast, another leaf went yellow-brown-ish and died off, and that looked quite different.

Hmmm...my Philodendron Hastatum leaves always turn pink before they turn yellow and died off. I guess you will just have to keep watching it! Let us know what happens!

Some new pictures of my mystery Philodendron! I do not think it's an Imperial Green ...

The leaves remind me of young mango trees.

But it doesn't appear to be a tree; at least there is no woody stem apparent in any of the photos.

Best bet so far, I'd say. What confuses me is the fact that the new leaf sits on a very greenish stem. In all the pictures I can find of 'Prince of Orange', the new stems are dark red. But maybe that's still within normal variation for a 'Prince of Orange'?

Hopefully I will get more clues when the new leaf has finished hardening!

It could be Pof O or it could be McColley's Finale. For some reason, these TC (tissue culture) plants can sometimes produce their first 'colorful' leaves in colors that are not what they will produce when they are bigger. But TBH, I have not ever seen a point leaf of any size. McColley's Finale is more apt to have the reddish color spectrum

If it hasn't been getting enough sun to maintain the striking colors, it could be a Philodendron Black Cardinal or a Philodendron Red Congo, aka Congo Rojo.

This is currently up for sale labeled as a Red Congo on Etsy.

And Sunshine Horticulture is calling these Black Cardinals.

That plant in Photo #1 doesn't look anything like the Philodendron 'Rojo Congo' I grew years ago:

And I never would have recognized the plants in that second photo as Blushing Philodendron (Philodendron Prismacolor™ Pop Art) I think that photo is likely mislabeled:

No argument here. It might take LipLap a month or two of growing their plant in good light before we can truly ID it.

I recently got Black Cardinal and a variegated McColley's Finale as trades. I haven't photographed the Black Cardinal yet but took this photo of the newest leaf on the var. McColley's a couple days ago...these are not mature plants, either one, and neither have the leaf morphology of their adult counterparts. That said...Rojo Congo is very easily differentiated from most of these others. Its petioles are longer and hold the (smaller, rounder more cup shaped) leaves a lot more upright than the petioles of the other hybrids, which are shorter and lay more parallel to the ground, holding longer more narrow leaves

Wow, that one looks VERY similar to my plant! None of them look anything like the Red Congos I have seen in person though. But like you said, their appearances might of course be affected by the conditions they've lived under.

Unfortunately my area only gets 6–8 hours of daylight for the next couple of months, so it might take longer. Rolling my eyes.
