Mcfarland, J. Horace (Ed). 1940. What Every Rose Grower Should Know (2nd Edition). The American Rose Society. J. Horace McFarland Company.
And then I opened the front cover to find a surprise...
Tree Rose catalog from Roy Hennessey's in Hillsboro, Oregon. I don't know what the date of the catalog might be but have included it in its entirety below. I'm going to work on getting the text distributed as well just in case there might be scant information on any of these cultivars.
Always looking for interesting plants for pollinators and food! Bonus points for highly, and pleasantly scented plants.

I have McFarland's "ROSES OF THE WORLD IN COLOR" -- 1936 . . . In mint condition, and with the signature of (presumably) the original owner on the flyleaf. The color illustrations (as in your book) are MAGNIFICENT. (And far too expensive to print in the U.S. today.) Good job McFarland owned the printing company!
Holy crap! I had not yet read the full catalog and was told the last page was deleted (along with additional replies I imagine). I went back to look at the original and saw why.
Sorry folks. In my zeal to get the thing posted I didn't see that, nor did I even have an inkling that I could see something like that in a horticultural catalog. I'll repost the page without that name later. Again, my apologies. I'm absolutely stunned and disgusted.

No problem, UrbanWild. I deleted the photo. I also deleted a couple of posts commenting on the name of the rose because they were confusing after the photo in question had been deleted.
@zuzu
Thanks for deleting the offending photo. I'm still in a bit of shock. I went from being happy for an older find that might have info of interest people to horrified disgust. That was a first for me. I just can't get over it.
@Mike
As soon as I saw my tree mail, I immediately confirmed and raced to the thread in order to remove. Luckily it was already gone but I felt people were owed the clarification. It's a shock to the system.

UW, it's OK. You didn't notice the offensive name of the rose; it was an innocent desire to share an old catalog with the rest of us, which was well-intended. Take a deep breath, and know that you are among understanding friends here!
