One more month before the rainy season here -- one more month of unpredictable wildfires, poor air quality, freakish heat waves, and the dire possibility of evacuation or worse.

Everything should be better in November. For now, I'll just escape the dreadful present by concentrating on my memories of traveling to Munich in October decades ago, before family obligations, financial responsibilities, and the ravages of age made that kind of travel impossible. The thumbnail rose for this month is Octoberfest, a McGredy grandiflora blooming in a vibrant blend of orange, yellow, and coral.

Well the rose is nice @zuzu Of course we are getting ready to add our third rose to the garden at the end of October. What we remember is
last year when we got to go for nearly all the month of October to India for a great vacation. It was our first big vacation after dealing with Hurricane
Harvey in 2017. Yes, we stayed at home for over two years! Now we are living in a rental home and keeping safe at home dealing with the requirements
of COVID-19 here in Texas. Stay safe from all of the wild fires! Enjoy the roses.

October is my favorite month here - usually cool, sunny, low humidity, very pleasant. Often it is also a good month for my roses, but they are still struggling from past neglect, weed competition, recent drought and leaf-cutter ants. I have promised them that I will do better from now on.

My Jacqueline Du Pres is the only bush still pumping out flowers. There are stray blooms here and there on other bushes but J d P is still crowned with blooms and buds.

At least I have Dahlias and chrysanthemums to brighten my garden as the roses slow down.

Beautiful pick for the month, Zuzu!

October is button up the garden month here. The roses will still give me a handful of blooms until Halloween but no big flushes. They won't get tucked in for winter until after Thanksgiving though.

My offer for October is Pumpkin Patch

So smoky outside so just did a quick watering and took some photos.
Rose (Rosa 'Gruss an Aachen') that I posted a few days ago is fully open now.

Heaven on Earth has different shades and looks. The leaves are always spotted, often rusted, and currently as you can see, covered in ash.

I bought this last summer as the white Blanc Double de Coubert but when I chose the potted plant at the nursery, it had both white and these purple blooms. I've since then had both colors again. The fragrance is divine, a rich old rose smell.

Truly amazing how the roses keep blooming in all that heat, ash and smoke.

The buds have opened

My roses did not start until about Aug. because it was just so cold, glad I am getting another flush. Yes, Zuzu, this has been a crazy gardening year and I was glad when I could look out my window and enjoy the blooms thru the smoke.
This first one was a clearance in a Kordes rose pot...it grows like a Kordes any ideas the name? Hybrid Tea with long stems not much smell, looks a little like a Peace.

I'm trying to decide if I like the scent. It's spicy and a bit... astringent? I wonder how the catalogues describe it.

Greetings rose lovers.

I have been away a while. Had a health crisis, gave away my beloved plants, headed from PA to stay with a friend in FL to recover. I am still in FL, currently gardenless but dreaming of future gardens now that I have healed.

I have a desert rose in a pot on the patio, but no real roses.

Dreams of future gardens soothe the stress of the times.

Hope all are well, safe from the wildfires, hurricaines, viruses and other worries.

I am recovered now thank goodness.

I got sick from a moldy house, needed supplemental oxygen and lots of steroids to breathe, steroids made me crazy anxious depressed, Horrible time.

No longer need oxygen tube not steroids. Mind and body back to normal. Working on getting my life in order yet again.
