Received these in the mail yesterday and they are suppose to be a red variety "Nitree." I can't see any eyes on them. They are "plump" to the touch, but they way the top looks cut off and the lack of much root, (and most of those have holes in them) worries me.

Hi Kissii,
I sure hope you did not pay very much for each of these. They look like they were from a prior year. I see what could be eyes, but the storage roots do not look like they will be able to support much growth.

Would you mind letting us know where you bought them so we can all avoid this seller?

If they will give you your money back, ask for it. If not, go ahead and plant them.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I would say to soak them in water - and once they've soaked for a bit, spray them gently.

I've twice gotten peonies from soil that was so staining in nature that it was hard to see the eyes until you washed them - and even then, the eyes were hard to pick out. The eyes on one of the plants was literally tan from the discoloration from the soil.

LG is probably right, though. I am just floating out a bit of hope.

EDIT: I could not find any info about "Nitree."

Sorry I would not think the roots will give good growth if they are not dead at all. Sad I had a bad experience with ebay seller some time ago though I know there are good sellers there. I know a number of reliable sources of excellent roots so I don't buy from ebay any more.

Is this the one? It says money back guarantee. Get your money back.

You could get some very nice peonies from Adelman's Black Friday sale for the amount of money you have spent for these.

Please don't feel bad about being scammed. I think everyone here has wasted money. One supplier I bought from the peonies were not even the same color as advertised.

I tried reviving 15 rhizomes like that two or three years ago. Survival rate was 20% after leaving them in a bucket of water overnight and of those three plants none survived to this year.
Had you been given for free or a nominal sum they may be worth a shot but if you paid market prices for them, get your money back.

If you don't know about the Green Pages...there are reputable sellers listed under Tools & Apps...but we have all been there with ebay!

I ordered a pressure cooker on ebay, it was never sent (the tracking number told it was not in UPS hands), although ebay could not actually do anything because of how this guy had worked it, Paypal refunded our money.

I also got black hollyhock seeds from "toad stool seeds" (Yeah should have been a clue) that turned out hot pink! They had fabulous reviews, but were horrible when I notified them of the mix-up. Then I realized all the reviews were on how fast they shipped, never on the seed being correct.

On the other hand, I have ordered lots and lots of shrubs from dogwooderitternet, they pack them well, but they have to be babied because they are just tiny. (Many bigger plants don't establish well for me or I would get the bigger ones.) Even then, someone from here got a peony from them that did not grow and they gave/got a refund.

I never bought anything from EBay, why? I don't know how, lol. I don't have Paypal either.

I can confirm that dogwooderitternet on ebay provides a lot of wonderful plants, but they all tend to be starters with good roots. I have been on ebay for 20 years, and he is one of the three vendors that I've elevated to a store bookmark. He's my go-to syringa connection.

ThankS for all the advice. So far have been totally unable to get a response from seller! After soaking these, I least have a few eyes I can see. For the most part, I have had very good results with eBay, but this is the first time I ordered plants. I did order a 120 m bird net recently, but got 12-10 m. nets.🤔
