Rose Barni is offering this Kordes rose this year; I'm wondering if I want to try it. Let me add that I am trying to limit myself to getting only roses that I REALLY want-I already have a huge pot ghetto and have five other roses on my list that I know I "REALLY want"! But I am a sucker for lavender-violet ,and this is a floribunda, not an HT; plus,I'm getting the impression that Kordes roses tend to do well for my garden. However I do already have Love Song, for example, waiting to be planted out...Is Nautica special? From the pics on HMF, it does look like a rose that bears many flowers in clusters (which I vastly prefer to those borne singly). In a couple pictures there does seem to be some balling going on, but these are from the Netherlands; in my dry climate this might not be an issue...any comments?

I don't have this particular rose. Although I have many Kordes roses that do very well here on Long island, I would not purchase this rose because it would most likely ball in my hot, very humid summer climate. I have tried a couple of Austin roses with numerous closely gathered petals and they balled.
Here is a link from Kordes with a description of Nautica:

Note their description: "very doubled flower balls".

I looked at the 2 photos on HMF where the blooms are balling. As you noted, those photos were taken in Hague, Netherlands in July.
This link shows a graft of the average humidity in Hague.

The remaining photos of Nautica on HMF were taken in Germany and show no signs of balling or disease.
Based on your dry climate I would ... Go for it! I look forward to viewing your photos of Nautica.

Hmm...thanks for your input, Margie. I do hate balling; it can occur in my climate on a susceptible rose during the spring flush, because the weather at times is damp-ish then. The problem is that my rose garden is "all about" that big spring explosion of bloom; after that, anything else is just sort of the cherry on top. I don't have running water out there (my garden is on our woodland property, about 20 minutes from the house),and even if I did, I have far too many plants to allow me to irrigate; things have to rely on rainfall. What's more, the weather usually becomes unbearably hot and miserable by mid-June or so,and at that point I don't much appreciate being out there at all,so a rose that only produces good flowers later on in the season isn't very appealing to me.

Glad to hear you came to a final conclusion - now you can move on.
