I can relate to patterns that don't pattern. A few older ones that have done well and showed a pattern here, they sometimes vary year to year or bloom to bloom but always pattern, are Stenciled Impressions, Huckleberry Candy, Screen Pattern, Texas Blue Eyes, Palace Garden Beauty and Jerry Hyatt. Newer ones, First Officers Log, Repertoire of Responses, Labyrinth, Blues Avenue, In Taffeta Patterns. I really haven't added many new ones, the southern plants do not like it here and can be dependent on heat to pattern, I mainly satisfy my pattern cravings with my own seedlings.

Satisfying your pattern cravings with your own seedlings is a win win.

The Winter DJ has Linda Sue Barnes's article on Patterns, Part 3. As usual, images are great. This section deals mainly with stippling, dotted, stripes, and that sort of pattern.
AHS members should see them in their mailboxes soon.

Hmmm, I didn't realize that stippling and dotted was a form of pattern.
Good to know.

Wellllllll, I got mine in last time before most folks, but this time, I'm doing without. It is by far my favorite mailbox gift 4 times a year! I have gotten in some new magazines that I recently subscribed to. A Christmas gift to myself this year:

Mary Janes Farm
Grit
Urban Farm - renewal

I'm really enjoying them. I let you know my favorite later as I read them all.

I was going through some of the pictures taken earlier this year and found this seedling of David. Don't know the parents but still pretty.

David's seedlings are very nice, the pink with broken eyezone is gorgeous!
Linda Sue's article in the Daylily Journal on the progress in patterns was an interesting read. I've had some stippled sdlg's over the years, not certain which term to use but the all over stipples, never was totaly taken by the look to work with them. Stipples in the eyezone or veins seem to come along as part of the pattern sdlg's I'm working with, a different look from the all over types. The one image in the article that really stuck out was the striped Fizziwig (Weston 1998). Although a different image, here it is from the ATP database

hmm, I haven't seen that one. It looks striped to me, the patterned, broken eyezone is what I am hoping comes along in many soon.

I really like the broken eyezone patterns too and pattern watermarks. Is anyone growing Ripples and Reflections (Morss 2012)? I saw the hybridizer image in a lot of places last year but haven't seen any images from other growers. Wondering if it shows that amazing pattern all the time.

Here's a photo of the one here. It started raining when I was taking photos, but if you click to enlarge you will see it better. I didn't take another photo for some reason (guess too busy hybridizing), but the pattern does change. Even on the hybridizer's website they show 3 different photos of it's patterns. Their 2012 page isn't working right now for some reason, but if you google Ripples and Reflections you will find the different ones from their website
