PPal - You said it! The calculated data is based on information from the National Weather Service that indicates the average snowfall is in a ratio of 10 inches of snow to 1 inch of equivalent rainfall. More densely packed and wet snow is in the ratio of 8 inches of snow to 1 inch of equivalent rainfall, and more powdery snow is about 14 to 1 ratio. (http://www.csgnetwork.com/snow...). So 18ft x 12inches / 10 = 21.6 inches of water. Almost 2 feet of pure water! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

It's raining AGAIN! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! This is like the 8th day this month we've gotten rain!! WONDERFUL!!! I'm watching it come down & listening to the thunder.. and also watching morons out there playing GOLF IN A DAMNED THUNDERSTORM! And Colorado has the highest percentile of human-lightning strikes in the nation.

Shrug! Shrug! Shrug!

PPal - No, actually most of the lightning strikes are from storms that form up in the mountains & hit hikers wearing metal hiking backpacks or take shelter under a tree. That's why, in high summer, it's advised to start finding shelter / making camp if you're doing more than just a little day hike around 1-2pm because between 2-3pm, the storms build up VERY fast. Weather's much different when you're 10,000-14,000 ft up.

Gloria - It rained for a good 2 hours at work.. and got a spittle at home! Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Not fair!! Oh well, as long as we get SOME moisture in this state...

Around here it seems to like to rain on pavement as opposed to farmland.

*THE* most spectacular lightning I have ever seen was from a nighttime storm in the foothills outside Denver. I was about 8 and have never forgotten. I can still 'see' the patterns.

We may get your rain this weekend. Of course the prediction is for large hail also. Grumbling
I have several roses blooming and the tall bearded iris are just starting. I am about 10 days behind my friends who live 5 minutes away. Temps here run 2 degrees cooler on average, and the wind is probably 5 mph higher, guessing.
Today was lovely. The roses are finally cleaned up, and the majority of the new plants are in the ground at last. Bluestone is having a great 50% off sale, so next week I'll have more to plant! Whistling
The soil is only 61 degrees so I shouldn't be putting in any annuals, but I lucked onto a great sale of wave petunias, so I planted them anyway.
One thing that is better this year is how fast the bare root roses are leafing out. I bought several in the peat pots at Menards and they are already blooming. They were bare when I bought them 3 weeks ago. All it took was 4 really warm days, and 3 lovely foggy mornings.
This is our slowest spring ever, but I think we're catching up! The redbuds are finally in bloom, and the mimosa looks like it's thinking about leafing out, maybe.
Rolling my eyes.

huge hail is hitting everyone around me, but so far, nothing but wind and rain at my house. Friends have texted that they've been hit with everything from golfball size to baseball. ugh.
Power out in some places. I took some pictures of the GREEN sky Blinking Blinking with the swirling clouds. So far, the tornadoes are on the west side of town and I have not heard of injuries yet.
I ran out and cut huge bouquets of iris and peonies. Didn't want a repeat of last year where I had no flowers left. At least I can have blooms in the house!
Another first....the satellite has not gone out! yet....

Thanks, Rita.
The drought and heat the last 2 summers killed off many of the big old cottonwoods that stand between the street and the creek. (The "creek" is 40 feet wide, so some might call it a small river) We have removed the dead ones on our property, but the ones farther down the street are on county right of way. I told county crews that they will present a hazard in the next big wind storm, and I was right. One fell today. I heard the very distinctive loud crack as it fell. We are in between rounds of tornados at the moment, so my husband took our big backhoe down to move it off the road.
We spent a day this week cutting down large trees that were leaning dangerously.
While we were *just* under the tornado watch Whistling , I went out and mulched everything I could, hoping to soften the hail's impact.
Hail can really compact the soil, in addition to ruining the plants and trees.

Cindi - I was watching these storms build yesterday on the mountains & was hoping they'd avoid your area ... Guess not Crying there's going to be another round hitting you probably in about 6 hours if the storm that just blew over me (and didn't drop a single drop of rain!!) keeps on the same track. It's heading our east & I can see a LOT of hail in this storm from the white squall lines. Please stay safe!!!

Right now we're in that stunning time right after a storm with deep blue/black clouds in the east and sun in the west. The flowers just glow! We had so much lightning that the grass is vivid green. The dust is washed off, everything is watered, and the weeds are giving up with the slightest tug.
Not sure how much rain we got since it fell sideways at 50 mph! Windows got thoroughly washed. Hurray! We always welcome rain, even if it falls sideways, firehose style!
Sorry you didn't get any. I know your rivers are down too.
