This Lily was growing here when I moved here. It had formed a huge clump as big or bigger than a semi truck tire. I split it up planted them every where and gave lots away. When I try to I.D. it there are 15 with the same kind of bloom but none fit exactly. They all are 5 feet tall or less. This one ALWAYS gets 6 feet or more unless it's a young plant. Some years they produce huge Bulbils and two year old plants from Bulbils will bloom 1 or 2 small blooms. I always thought and called it graffiti but someone pointed out the stalks aren't dark enough in color to be that and suggested golden stone. It fits golden stone in every way except height these are much taller. Someone please give me a name it's driving me mad trying to figure it out. The top of the window in the second pic is a good 8 feet from the ground.

Well, it's really hard to get correct ID especially for asiatics and LA hybrids. There is a lot of them looking almost identical. I had lily that looked like the one on the 2nd photo. 'Latvia'. It was tall. 140 cm+.

I think ID will be harder than you would think. What distinguishes it appears to be its height and the presence of bulbils on the stem from time to time. If it has a light fragrance when it blooms it might fall into the Longiflorum Asiatic group.

That type of spotting pattern is known as "tango" and there are now many very similar type hybrids out there making it more difficult to identify.

There are other excruciating details you can look for. For example, does it have papillae? Does it have frosted nectaries? This information is sometimes included in the Lily register descriptions. But you would need a list of potential candidates to look them up.

Finally, how long have you had this lily? It can't be any newer (meaning date of introduction) than when you acquired it.

Busy building a lily collection...
Duane - this is 'Latvia' from the North American Lily Society homepage. It sure looks like yours! I think the dark patches on 'Golden Stone' look more orange and not as dark. But Connie is correct that there are several similar varieties out there, and the dark coloration could change a bit with temperature, sunlight intensity... I haven't grown "Latvia' myself, so I am only going off of photos published online.

Thank you Luka they look very similar. This one gets 183cm+ and is the first out of the ground and first to bloom of the 70 or so different lilies I have.

Thank You Connie bloom time for this one is earlier than any of the 70 or so different ones I have. L.A.'s are a mid season bloomer. This one some years will have buds nipped by the last frost or two of spring. I never acquired it, it was here when I moved here 7 years ago and it had been here so long it had formed a clump as big or bigger than a semi/18wheeler truck.

Thank you SteveW and everybody. I have new names and i.d. markers to look into.
I also should have included in the post that this one comes up and blooms before any other Lily I have sometimes having the top or even buds frozen by the last frost or two of the year It is blooming now on May 8th 2023.
