@Gerris2, could you refresh my memory? I don't pursue Ipomoea nil as feverishly as I once did, but I always grow a few. Last year @bluespiral shared some old seeds from her collection and I found a 13 year old packet with 1 seed remaining that I had sent her from my own plants in a long ago trade.
I seem to recall that you may have coined the "Xiong's Chinese" moniker because of your original source. Was the name changed or is my poor memory really just an alternate reality? I appreciate you, or anyone, setting me straight. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it now that it is blooming in my garden again. I don't want to use the wrong name for it.
Thanks, Alana

I got the seeds from a trader whose name was Xiong, who I believe lived in mainland China (international trading was less restricted then). I'm glad you still have it. I gave away my seeds recently so only have the memories and photos.

Thank's Joseph, for responding, will call it that with confidence. I had not seen it in years, makes me nostalgic.

Alana and Joseph - thank you for posting this one - In my mind's eye, I can see the ghosts of the Blue Gate Garden's morning glories, buds bursting to open when tomorrow's dawn comes...and the gardeners who shared them - remember the Japanese samurai's creations from around the early 1800s - was Galaxy on the Beach one of those? and Emma's grey Ipomoea nil from a Russian lady? One of those survived our winters a few years. And Dr. Yoneda's yougiro (sp?) crosses that transformed some of those large silky Ipomoea nils too well mannered to produce many flowers into uninhibited, prolific snoot snappers via Ipomoea purpurea - no botanical Miss Manners going on there.

The framing to the Blue Gate garden somehow walked off by itself, along with the tapestry of ground covering perennials and some of the amended topsoil they were growing in - grass seed seems to have sown itself, along with transplanted clumps/plugs of various grasses - I seem to recall a wish for a parking lot there once - even though I've been clear about not wanted to sell.

Growing out and sharing these morning glories with my late dh was an adventure of enchantment and discovery that your posts here affirm is continuing into the future with other gardeners in other places.

Trying to bring back my garden has felt like Don Quixote battling with the windmill - I know it's not likely - but isn't gardening sometimes like that - battling the seemingly impossible for the sake of what may appear to others like an irrational dream?

Hi Karen,

Good luck reclaiming your garden. It's been a long time since last we shared messages. My condolences on your husband's passing. If you or anyone else reading this post would like to grow some different morning glory cultivars, let me know. I'm in need of seriously downsizing my seed collection. The seeds are viable and need a good home.

I was banished from Ron Kushner's Facebook groups. He started harassing me and I left one group. Then he blocked me from his groups and summarily unfriended me. Life is better now. I thought you would like to know this given his history with you.

Karen, that is lovely. That period when we were first trading seeds was the heyday of my Ipomoea gardens, hence the nostalgia; wish you could recapture a bit of that, too. You had many wonderful seeds.

Joseph, I can trace the dimunition of my interest to the discord sown by Ron, whose knowledge I admired. I was not important enough to be more than a tangential target, but witnessing the bullying and toxicity was too much.
That's a lovely pale MG, by the way, like a 5 tentacled octopus.

The only thing that could have saved me from Ron's wrath would have been a muzzle, which I freely, knowingly and stupidly refrained from using. At present, I'm in a worse pickle at home, so I especially need to forgo my 1st amendment rights and just give you two a heartfelt thank you for your much appreciated words.

And Joseph thank you for your offer of such tantalizing seeds, but mine wouldn't be a good home for them right now.

gonna go pull some weeds and practice the serenity prayer

(1st edit to rein in remarks that I might make on this forum closer to the subject of just morning glory flowers.)

Where would that kind of off-topic discussion end, if ever? Mention 'Kushner' to me and the subjects of harassment and possibly real estate cannot be far away. Nor might be possible vested interests in this community. Since ~2014, someone hasn't been willing to wait for me to sell my home of my own free will, but rather has proceeded to do what any new developer/buyer might do AFTER purchase: clear the property of trees and whatever - by such tiny incremental changes that the crime is not apparent, unless you're the owner who designed and made the garden and have an above-average knowledge of botany, design and gardens, but ignorant when it comes to modern devices/techniques /substances.

(2nd edit to delete references to Robert Frost and investors, which ironically, includes us all one way or another. But as a side note - has anyone ever met a really serious investor who loved poetry? Bet the wings of the Snark Bird could rise to new heights on that one.)

Watching the garden, helplessly, being cannibalized alive while being pressured not only to shut up but to accept what I'm seeing isn't happening is known in some circles as gaslighting - part of a community influencer's toolbox when it comes to stimulating a 'stagnant' real estate market.

Let me know if anyone would like for me to delete this post.

Now y'all may have some idea how badly I miss growing morning glories like I used to - and not by the current convolvulaceae infestations (and their kith and kin) planted/sown in my garden without my permission.

In addition to deleting this post, please accept my apologies.

Hello all. It has been a while since I've been on here. Missed those old days exchanging JMG seeds. I still have a nice little collection and share them with friends. I'm not growing the pink JMG this year, but here is what's blooming today. These 2 blooms are on the same vine. I want to say Ukigumo but the bag that I used to plant these said speck/stripes.

Hi Nicole! Your flower sure is pretty and does look like a variant of Ukigumo Thinking
