Hi & welcome! You should water often enough to prevent wilting.

What purpleinopp said.

They've got big fat carrot-looking roots, so make sure you give them a good soaking occasionally.

When you see drooping, that's a sign.

The next is when they fold horizontally.

Last, for me at least, is when the tips start dying and browning.

Ideally water them before they start showing signs of stress. If you push your finger into the compost and the first couple of inches feels dry then water thoroughly then let dry out again. Don't let the pot sit in water which can cause root rot.

I doubt you can kill them by overwatering but you can definitely kill them by underwatering.

I've killed them somehow! I usually keep on the dry side, but my spider plants tend to start rotting from the leaf base. They baffle me.
Plant it and they will come.

Keep them outside during the summer and fall, water them every other day. They go in our cool dark basement before frost, I try to get them water about once a month, they look rough in the spring (like dead) and than recover once they get some sun and water.

With those roots, I can imagine them going almost dormant, and recovering.
Outside is like magic to many of my plants. My recent spider was looking so bad, indoors, I brought home, rearranged the two hunks in the pot with fresh dirt, set in shade et voila! Almost overnight improvement.

I water mine whenever the compost is bone dry. I have a lot of them. I started off with two and now I have a lot because they grow so quickly and produce lots of babies within a year. When they grow big the roots can also get very fat in the pot and sometimes they need the button half of there root ball cutting and then potted back with some fresh compost otherwise they can get very root bound making watering more difficult.

I always find its better to under water than over water, although spider plants are very forgiving light is the most important thing when it comes to spider plants. They normally droop when they need water. The best way is to stick your finger in the dirt and if its bone dry then its time to water. If you still feel moisture then don't water.
